What to do About Migraines
What to do about migraines is confusing. I could never pin point any reason that showed me what to do about migraines because I did not have a clue. Today, that’s a different story because know the triggers to migraines.
Today, I may be able to help you to decide. You see, I had to decide that same question back in 1996.
My life had become unpredictable. I had no clue if I would be able to function the next day or if I would find myself in pain 24 hours.
In fact, three or four times a week I would be awakened out of a dead sleep about three a.m. in horrible pain. For many years, I thought that I was having a sinus attack. I would take the over the counter little yellow pill and my sinus pain would disappear. The bad part was that I would disappear in bed because the medication put me straight to sleep.
But, when I awoke, the pain was gone and life would become normal again.
After about ten years of this routine, the medication stopped working and when I awoke, my pain would be worse than before I went to sleep. In total desperation to get my life back, I went to my family doctor and he diagnosed my health problem as “migraine headaches.”
He quickly took out his prescription pad and wrote me a pain pill prescription to help me “manage the pain.” I did not want a life sentence to pain medication. I knew what pain medication did to me – - it rendered me straight to bed. So, I asked my doctor what to do about migraines? He said, “I told you, take this medication and it will manage the pain.”
Bravely, I decided to ask again, “What is my body trying to tell me? What to do about migraines because I felt that my body was warning me of something but I didn’t know how to find out.”
My M.D. looked at me like I was from Mars, he had just made the diagnosis and I had my answer as far as he was concerned. He gently handed me the prescription as he walked out of the examining room.
I went to my car in total desperation asking, “What to do about migraines,” and in about ten minutes found myself in a puddle of tears. What did I do? I decided I could not take a life sentence to pain. I decided to fight back and not surrender to the pain. I wanted to learn what I was missing. I didn’t want traditional, mainstream health education. I decided that I wanted preventive and wellness training.
After years of taking classes, I became a Ph.D. in 2001 in Nutritional Medicine. My constant trial and error research – - with me as the lab rat – - had changed me 100 percent because I was now migraine free.
What did I learn from going back to school? My education showed me that the chemical additives and preservatives in my food were contributing to my migraines. I gradually removed all the words I couldn’t pronounce in the ingredient lists of my foods, and the migraines began to decrease.
Today I have not had a migraine since 1999. It was a long road with a lot of work, but it was totally worth the journey to become pain free. I was also diagnosed with beginning fibromyalgia and TMJ in 1995, but I became free from all prescription pain medication.
This research is available to you on my website. Here’s some help right now for what to do about migraines, don’t eat any food that has more than six ingredients listed on the label. The front of the label won’t offer you any helpful information, but the ingredient label on the back with the very small print is where your freedom hides. Freedom from pain. Freedom to start a new life.
