Pain is a warning sign from your body that something in your lifestyle has become toxic. Fixing the pain with a pain medication doesn’t fix the problem — taking medication medicates the problem to be tackled another day.

Hippocrates said, “Let your food be your medicine. Let medicine be your food.” How can your food become your medicine? Become conscious of every single item you put into your mouth.  Detoxifying your body starts with

Step One: “Stop polluting it!”

How can you stop polluting your body? Read labels. If you cannot pronounce it, don’t eat it. The average American consumes nine  pounds of preservatives per year! Where does your body store these toxins? Your body fat.

Dr. Elson Haas in his text, “The Detoxification Diet” says, “Detoxification is also an important component in treating obesity. Many of the toxins we ingest or make are stored in the fatty tissues; hence, obesity is almost always associated with toxicity. When we lose weight, we reduce our body fat and thereby our toxic load.”

Enriched food products are not food. All purpose flour has no purpose! Most baked goods, store-bought cookies, crackers, bread, pasta etcetera, etcetera have this non food in them!

Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oil is every where! Food manufacturers use this oil because it is cheap and increases their products shelf life. Food manufacturers are interested in a long shelf life and not in your life!

If you take man-made vitamins, protein drinks and supplements, STOP! Most of the fillers and ingredients on the label are words you don’t understand and are may NOT be safe!

Step Two: “Drink filtered or distilled water!”

Dr. Haas says, “Simply increasing liquid intake and decreasing (bad) fats and refined (enriched) flour products will improve elimination and lessen toxin buildup.”

Herbal teas are an alternative to water. Drink dandelion or milk thistle tea and sweeten with 100% juice. No fructose or any other “ose” sugars! Read the ingredients. Black tea is NOT herbal tea.

Step Three: “Get an Oil Change!”

Dr. Sidney MacDonald Baker in his text, “Detoxification and Healing” says “Change your oil in your body,” not just your car. EVOO—that’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil helps you detoxify! Dr. Haas suggests this drink to help you detoxify. “Lemon water combined with a couple of teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil and a quarter teaspoon or capsule of cayenne pepper with help detoxify the liver. . . Cold-pressed olive oil is commonly used in many natural liver therapies.”

Other Detox Avenues:

* Sunshine: needed to revitalize your body; but avoid excessive exposure.

* Steams and saunas are also good for providing warmth and supporting detoxification. Drink while in the sauna!

* Skin brushing – with a dry, soft, natural bristle brush helps remove toxins from the skin.

* Exercise is extremely important to support the cleansing process. Exercise clears wastes from lungs and the skin, and releases toxicity. Replace water while exercising.

* Thoughts can be toxic. Avoid negative people and negative thoughts.

Chronic  illness is multifactorial. It is rare that one prescription pill or one operation will solve all of your chronic illness. Instead, illness can be compared to Dr. Baker’s “Tack Rule.”

             1)          If you are sitting on a tack, it takes a lot of aspirin to make it                                     feel good.

             2)          If you are sitting on two tacks, removing just one tack results                                       in a 50-percent improvement.”

Detoxifying your body, will help your body to heal. Dr. Andrew Weil says, “We must give our body the right atmosphere in order to heal.”

Removing a tack or “foods that pollute your body” will begin to give your body the right atmosphere in order to heal. Taking a lot of aspirin will not solve the problem of the tack. You may not feel the tack because of all the aspirin you consume, but the tack will still be there.

Instead of dealing with the symptoms of bad health, solve the problem of why you have bad health. Both the books mentioned here are excellent books to learn more about detoxification.
