Case Study Heart Failure – 75 year old finds help for her chest pains
Case Study Heart Failure: Mary, who was 75, suffered from pain in her chest. Before I met her she had had 18 medical appointments to seek help for the pain in her chest. Her energy was good and carried no complaints. The pain was severe and shot across her chest; her heart would sometimes flutter, pound and skip beats. Her daughter suggested that she come to see me before her usual check up with the cardiologist.
When Mary came in for a consultation, I was so impressed with her diet of whole, fresh foods. One small problem, though: She ate dairy four times a day because she was afraid of making her osteoporosis worse. Mary told me, “I drink at least one gallon of milk every week.”
Because milk is loaded with additives from Farmers feeding their cows hormones, I suggested Mary do an experiment with her diet. She agreed to try something different. “Something has got to work, I feel like I am going to have a heart attack and die!”
When I suggested she take a break from dairy for just one week, she gasped and said, “What do I eat?” We chose alternative foods. In one week she came in for her follow up consultation and told me:
“I feel wonderful. What do I tell my cardiologist? He thinks I’m sick.”
Giving up dairy with the Feel-Better Plan or cutting down is a big lifestyle change, but you should seriously consider this experiment with your own Heart Failure health problem. You may have success like Mary did.
Eating dairy products from a health food store can help with the transition. Please remember there aren’t any guidelines to determine a “hormone-free” cow. We don’t know how long the “hormone-free” cow has been free of hormones. Since birth? One month? Two months? How long does it take for a cow’s liver to get rid of all of the hormones out of their body? We don’t know. Moderation is the key when eating dairy products – even from the health food store. Let dairy become a treat and not a way of life.
